Choose the extendable hose: quality and safety. Yoyo by Fitt
Published at: 28-04-2018

Making an informed choice of an extendable hose is a common issue for users.

Extendable hoses, for watering and other uses, are now a solution familiar to all; demand is extremely high and the questions asked by consumers are typical for this type of product:

  • how do I choose the best product?
  • what makes it the best product?
  • do extendable hoses meet the expected quality standards?
  • are they safe and reliable?

Quality, cost effectiveness and safety are therefore the factors that influence a user’s choice

  • Are they delicate?
  • Do they wear easily?
  • Do they suffer from exposure to sunlight?
  • Do they collect dirt?
  • Are they easy to use?
  • Are they easy to empty and store after use?

One thing is certain now

Once users have tried our extendable hose, there is no looking back.

Extendable hoses, the quality and safety indicators

Tests and certification, first and foremost.

TÜV SÜD is the independent German certification body that FITT has entrusted with Yoyo extendable hoses, to create a test protocol that demonstrates the product quality with objectivity and measurability.

Sequential resistance tests conducted on the hose filled with water and subject to a temperature of approx. 20° up to a pressure 25% higher than the maximum operating value, then emptied for an interval of 30 seconds, performed 1000 times consecutively.

The hose, complete with accessories, is exposed to UV rays in a closed chamber where climatic conditions of heat, cold and humidity are reproduced for a minimum period of 300 hours.

The hose, complete with fittings, is filled with water at ambient temperature (20° C) up to a pressure of 8 bar, i.e. double the maximum operating pressure value. The same test is performed bringing the hose complete with fittings and accessories to a pressure of 12 bar, i.e. three times the maximum operating pressure.

Chemical tests performed on the product certify the absence of hazardous substances for man, such as heavy metals and harmful plastifying agents such as phtalates (substances not envisaged in the manufacture of toys or articles for newborn babies).

The two fittings attached to the ends of the hose are equipped with the “aqua-stop” system, which is activated automatically to shut off the water flow under pressure when the hose is detached  from the tap, or when the spray gun is removed from the hose. This avoids unwanted spillage of pressurised water if the hose is not previously emptied.

Choosing an extendable hose sensibly

Extendable hoses are not all the same, but the demands of users usually are: choosing an extendable hose that:

  • occupies less space
  • is lightweight
  • is pleasant to touch
  • is strong, safe and durable

Obtaining transparent information on how and to what extent products on the market respond to these demands enables consumers to make an informed choice that goes beyond the criteria of simply “displayed price”.

So what advice can Fitt give, as a leading company in the manufacture of flexible hoses for domestic and professional irrigation, when choosing your personal extendable hose?

  • research the type of product certification and tests that the product undergoes
  • touch the product itself
  • look up user reviews on the Internet
