Making an informed choice of an extendable hose is a common issue for users.

Extendable hoses, the quality and safety indicators

Tests and certification, first and foremost.

 TÜV SÜD is the independent German certification body that FITT has entrusted with Yoyo extendable hoses, to create a test protocol that demonstrates the product quality with objectivity and measurability.

RESISTANCE TEST

Sequential resistance tests conducted on the hose filled with water and subject to a temperature of approx. 20° up to a pressure 25% higher than the maximum operating value, then emptied for an interval of 30 seconds, performed 1000 times consecutively.

 

UV RESISTANCE TEST

The hose, complete with accessories, is exposed to UV rays in a closed chamber where climatic conditions of heat, cold and humidity are reproduced for a minimum period of 300 hours.

 

PRESSURE RESISTANCE TEST

The hose, complete with fittings, is filled with water at ambient temperature (20° C) up to a pressure of 8 bar, i.e. double the maximum operating pressure value. The same test is performed bringing the hose complete with fittings and accessories to a pressure of 12 bar, i.e. three times the maximum operating pressure.

 

MATERIALS SAFETY TEST

Chemical tests performed on the product certify the absence of hazardous substances for man, such as heavy metals and harmful plastifying agents such as phtalates (substances not envisaged in the manufacture of toys or articles for newborn babies).

 

OPERATING SAFETY TEST

The two fittings attached to the ends of the hose are equipped with the “aqua-stop” system, which is activated automatically to shut off the water flow under pressure when the hose is detached  from the tap, or when the spray gun is removed from the hose. This avoids unwanted spillage of pressurised water if the hose is not previously emptied.
